Bold and Brilliant (Tropical) Vases

While I was in the Dominican Republic on a recent vacation, I had the chance to see some examples of West Indies décor. I love the way that the rich chocolate mixes with the iridescent red.

The rich colors seen in these vases are characteristic of the bold palette in the West Indies - what an exquisite use of color!

Design on a Dime

Looking aimlessly for design ideas one day for my own bedroom, I stumbled upon this picture. I was immediately drawn to it but wasn’t sure why.

Design on a Dime

Upon further inspection, I realized the picture's allure. The damask stenciling on the walls is an inexpensive and easy way to add drama and detail to a room. I loved the contrast of the silver with the light beige. Whether you’re the crafty ‘do-it-yourself” type or can find the perfect tutu elsewhere, the tulle “tutu” chandelier is a one-of-a-kind look that will not only add ambient lighting, but a luxurious and fashion forward aesthetic to your room. To further the room's romantic theme, add vintage lace curtains. These window treatments can easily be sewn from local fabric store goods or found for a bargain at a flea market.  Keep in the mind the contrast of textures found in this picture. The illusion of texture will add interest to your room and create your own personal oasis.

A Blast from the Past

Many of us here on the design team live in the outer boroughs of New York City. As a local, you learn quickly that a trip to the thrift store can not only be smart for your wallet but can also be inspirational. While on one of these excursions in Queens, I made a great find!

Are you unsure what I am alluding to here? Let's take a closer look at the top corners:

Ex-Cell Vintage Window Curtain - Logo

While I think we've come a long way from vinyl window curtains to match to your vinyl shower curtain it’s nice to be working at a company with history. Maybe we can do a retro line with all the finds we’ve been making...

Turn Your Bathroom into an Energy Saving Spa Oasis

A nice bath towel is one of life's simplest luxuries. It can help turn any ordinary bathroom into your spa oasis. When the world is speeding by, it is comforting to know that your day will have a few moments of pure indulgence.

It can be confusing to determine the best towel for your individual needs. There are many factors to consider when making your decision. Style, color, durability, size and weight can all help you make your final decision.

For the past decade, exceptionally heavy, oversized towels have taken the spotlight, and bath sheets have gained traction in the mainstream. However, as households look for ways to live in a more cost effective way, the spotlight placed on saving in energy costs becomes brighter. While heavy, oversized towels are luxurious, a standard or slightly oversized towel can do the job of a larger towel while taking less time to dry. Less time in the dryer means more money saved in energy costs.

In order to have the best of both worlds, look for luxurious towels that are slightly lighter, and large enough to cover without being excessively oversized.

Garden Gala

I recently moved into my new apartment, and I'm more than a little behind in decorating.  I finally got a kitchen table so I'm not forced to eat in front of the TV.  I love the natural wood, but because I have a lot of space (crazy in New York City!) my room looked pretty bland.

Plain Table

In order to dress it up a bit (and prevent myself from getting splinters), I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond to check out the table linens.  I found this perfect tablecloth waiting for me.

The Garden Gala tablecloth totally worked with the colors I have in my living room and really brings together the room. Success!
